Food Wheel

Spin for a meal, cuisine, takeaway, or restaurant. Use a ready-made wheel or add the places you are genuinely considering.

What is the Food Wheel?

The Food Wheel is a free random food picker for the moment when everyone is hungry and nobody wants to make the call. Use it to choose a dish, a type of cuisine, a takeaway category, or one restaurant from your own shortlist. Every visible slice has the same chance of winning; the wheel does not rank choices or use your location.

How to use the Food Wheel

Start with the kind of decision you need to make, then let the wheel handle the tie-break:

  • Choose What to Eat, Cuisine, Fast Food, Healthy, or switch to Custom for your own list.
  • Press the center Spin button. Keyboard users can press Space or Enter while the wheel is focused.
  • Take the result, or choose Remove & spin again if you want to rule it out and pick from what remains.
  • For several picks, turn on No-repeat mode so the same choice cannot return during that session.

What should I eat?

Match the wheel to the decision you have already narrowed down. If you are open to almost anything, start with What to Eat. If you know you want to order but cannot agree on a direction, use Cuisine or Fast Food. If the real choice is between four nearby places, Custom mode will give you a much more useful answer than a broad food list.

A good shortlist contains only options that are open, affordable, and acceptable to everyone eating. That way, any result is workable. If the first spin makes you immediately wish another option had won, that reaction has helped too—you probably found what you wanted.

Food Wheel modes

The four ready-made wheels cover different stages of the decision. Custom mode is there when you already have a shortlist.

  • What to Eat — Everyday meal ideas such as pizza, pasta, curry, tacos, sushi, ramen, soup, salads, and rice bowls. Use this mode when you have no plan at all.
  • Cuisine — Chooses a direction—Indian, Italian, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Mediterranean, and more—without pretending to choose a specific restaurant.
  • Fast Food — Quick takeaway categories including burgers, pizza, fried chicken, tacos, wraps, noodles, fries, and burritos.
  • Healthy — Meal types such as grain bowls, lentil dishes, vegetable stir-fries, soups, roasted vegetables, tofu bowls, and chickpea bowls.
  • Custom — Build a wheel from restaurant names, dishes on a menu, leftovers in the fridge, or any choices that matter to you.

Add your own food or restaurants

Custom mode turns the tool into a restaurant picker for your actual neighborhood. Add choices one at a time, or paste a list with one option per line. You can use business names, specific menu items, meal-prep dishes, or ingredients you need to use up. Keep the list short and realistic: six places you would order from beats twenty places that are closed, too far away, or outside the budget.

Your list is saved locally in the browser on that device, so it will still be there on your next visit. Nothing is attached to an account or sent to a restaurant.

Choosing food for a group

For family dinner, an office lunch, or takeout with friends, ask each person for one choice and add all of them to a Custom wheel. Agree on allergies, budget, distance, and any firm vetoes before you spin. Once every option is acceptable, the result feels fair because no one person made the final call.

No-repeat mode is useful when the wheel is choosing several things—for example, three dishes to share or lunch plans across a week—because each landed option leaves the pool.

Why a random choice helps

A wheel is useful after you have done the important thinking. It cannot know your dietary needs, opening times, delivery fees, or what is in the fridge; you handle those constraints when you make the list. The spin then settles the remaining options without another round of “I don't mind—what do you want?”

If your decision has only two outcomes, the Yes or No Wheel is the simpler tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Food Wheel?

A Food Wheel is a random food picker. Add or choose the meals, cuisines, takeaways, or restaurants you would be happy with, then spin to select one fairly.

How does the Food Wheel work?

Choose What to Eat, Cuisine, Fast Food, Healthy, or Custom mode, then press Spin. Every active slice has an equal chance of being selected.

Can I add my own foods and restaurants?

Yes. Custom mode accepts dishes, restaurant names, takeaway options, or any other shortlist. Add choices one at a time or paste a list.

Can I remove a food after it is selected?

Yes. Use Remove & spin again after a result, or turn on No-repeat mode when you want landed choices removed automatically during a session.

Does the Food Wheel find restaurants near me?

No. The wheel does not use your location or recommend businesses. Put the nearby restaurants you are actually considering into Custom mode and it will choose among them.

Is every option on the wheel equally likely?

Yes. Each active slice has the same probability. The result is chosen with the browser's secure random-number API before the wheel animates to that slice.

Are my custom foods saved?

Yes. Your Custom list is stored in the browser on that device. It is not uploaded to an account, and clearing site data may remove it.

Is the Food Wheel free to use?

Yes. The Food Wheel is free, works on phones and computers, and does not require an account or sign-up.
