Pick a Random Item from Your Own List

A random list picker settles choices after you have decided what is actually acceptable. Paste movies, restaurants, tasks, books, games, activities, prompts, or any other text list, then draw the number of results you need.

Pick a result

Choose one answer for a quick decision or several different positions for a random subset.

Build an order

Shuffle the entire list when the sequence matters more than selecting a single winner.

How to Use the Random List Picker

A useful list contains only outcomes you can accept. Remove impossible choices first, then let the picker handle the remaining tie.

  1. Make the list.Paste one choice per line or load a preset to see the format.
  2. Choose the amount.Pick one item for a decision or increase the count for a shortlist or subset.
  3. Set repeat behavior.Turn on Cross off picked item when a selected line should leave future draws.
  4. Pick or shuffle.Copy the selected result, draw again, or randomize the entire list order.

Lists Worth Randomizing

The picker is most helpful after practical limits such as time, budget, availability, and group preferences are already reflected in the list.

Movie and game night

Paste the watchlist or game shelf that everyone has already agreed to consider.

Food decisions

Choose from open restaurants, possible meals, recipes, takeaways, or dishes on one menu.

Tasks and prompts

Work through chores, study topics, writing ideas, interview questions, or creative exercises.

Queues and order

Shuffle speakers, presentations, activities, books, songs, or a sequence of practice drills.

Random List Picker FAQ

How do I pick a random item from a list?

Paste one item per line, choose how many items to pick, and select Pick Random Item. The result is chosen from the current list with browser-based random values.

Can I pick multiple items?

Yes. Set Items to Pick from 1 to 20. Each result in the same draw comes from a different list position, so you receive a random subset rather than the same line twice.

What does Cross off picked item do?

When enabled, selected items are removed from the textarea after each draw. It is useful for working through chores, prompts, activities, or a watchlist without selecting the same line again.

Do duplicate lines have extra weight?

Yes. Each list position is eligible, so a repeated line can appear more often across draws. Remove unintended duplicates first when every distinct choice should have the same chance.

Can I shuffle the whole list instead of choosing one item?

Yes. Shuffle List rewrites the textarea in a random order. Use it for a queue, presentation order, task sequence, or playlist plan.

Is my list uploaded or saved?

No account or server upload is required. The active list is handled in the current browser session, so keep a separate copy if you need it later.
